The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of developing the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan. The Master Plan will guide the development and operation of parks, aquatic and sports facilities, community centers, and recreation programs in the City over the next 10 years.
About the master plan
The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan is intended to help meet the needs of current and future residents by positioning Lubbock to build on the community's unique parks and recreation assets and identify new opportunities for recreation. This Master Plan will reference and build upon the existing Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan adopted by City Council in 2011. The updated, citizen driven Master Plan will establish a clear direction to guide city staff, the park advisory board, and elected officials regarding the growth, development, and enhancement of the community's parks, public spaces, as well as recreation programs, services and facilities.
The purpose of the Master Plan is to identify assets in the park system; address identified needs through an implementation action plan; and ensure that all interests – public, quasi-public, and private sector – are aligned when it comes to the development, programming, and provision of park land, recreational facilities, and recreational programs for the citizens of Lubbock.
